I’ll start with all of the positive elements about the show. It’s difficult to capture the depth and world of Tolkien, and people underestimate how much history there is. This show does a neat job of taking some of the things that happened over time and condensing it, loosely. The thing that they screwed up on is casting, character development, which makes it hard to take serious. It’s clear that they hired not on performance but they are guilty of “casting for culture” and in the process, they dropped the ball. A few things I wish they had done is made the characters more engaging and intriguing, made elves with long hair like they should have been, done a better job at casting, and overall the show lacks cohesiveness. I’m hoping that the new season is a massive upgrade from the first.
