“Harold and the Purple Crayon” is not only a classic example of great American children’s literature but also a shining example of American cinema’s ability to adapt and enhance literary works. Based on the children’s book of the same name, this movie brings Harold to life, along with Moose and Porcupine. Kids will love it’s nutty-ness and the silly pranks and the goofy jokes, but that’s about as far as it goes. Toward the end, the film tries to convey the message of “use your imagination” but it’s too little too late to really redeem the movie. The real shining star of the film is Benjamin Bottani, playing the lead part of Mel. This kid has a future on the screen and it will be fun to watch him.
