Crown Vic (2019) Movie full Review

If someone asked me to describe the movie ‘Crown Vic’ to them I think I’d tell them it was like a long, fictional episode of ‘Cops’. The movie really is just that. We meet a couple of cops, one on his first day, and then follow their movements for the night. We switch back and forth between them talking about things in the squad car, and them having interactions with criminals, the public and other officers. This goes on until the movie ends. And somehow it works. While most movies have a beginning, a middle and an end, this one sort of just has a continuous middle.

The key to making this work was getting a couple of characters that were very interesting and having a couple of really good actors to play them. They got both of those right and that’s why this film works. Thomas Jane plays a grissled and grumpy veteran cop who underneath his tough exterior has a heart of gold. That might sound like a cliche (and it probably is) but who cares if it works right?

My favourite parts of the film were where these guys, and especially the rookie cop, were put in positions where they had to make tough decisions based on their ethics. It did a good job of putting the audience in their shoes and making them question what they would do in that situation. The films chugs along at a great pace and is never boring. There isn’t really a dud scene in the movie either. Every interaction is interesting to watch. I really enjoyed ‘Crown Vic’ and would recommend it as one to watch.
